Robert Olilver graduated on May 14 from the S J Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah.
In his first year of law school he received awards in legal writing and received one of the top grades in his legal writing course each semester. In his second year he competed in the Law School’s Traynor Moot Court competition. With his partner, he went undefeated through the preliminary rounds, the elimination rounds, and eventually won the entire competition. Based on this performance in the school competition, he qualified for the school’s national team and competed in the National Moot Court competition. In addition to excelling in Moot Court and Legal Writing, during his time at the school he interned at the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center, a non-profit organization that researches the causes of wrongful convictions and investigates cases of actual innocence.
During his time with the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center, he was assigned a case to investigate and interviewed police officers, and witnesses to determine if the defendant was actually innocent. In addition to working with the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center, he interned at Salt Lake Legal Defenders. During his time at Salt Lake Legal Defenders he assisted with providing legal representation to poor defendants. In addition, under Utah’s rules he was able to appear and participate in several jury trials. Because of this work at the Rocky Mountain Innocence Center and Salt Lake Legal Defenders, he was nominated for a clinical service award.
Robert graduated from C.E.U. with an associate degree in psychology, and from Weber State with his bachelor degree in criminal justice with a minor in psychology. He is a graduate of Emery High and is the son of Alfred and Yvonne Oliver of Elmo. He married Sarah Jean Curtis of Orangeville. They have two boys, Dalyn age 7, and Kaden 2 months.
Robert will take the Utah State Bar Exam in July.
