Cleveland Town welcomed their new fire station with a celebration on May 1. Greg Oliver, fire chief, cut the fire hose with the jaws of life to officially open the new station. Mayor Chris Parkins and Emery County Commissioners Jeff Horrocks and Gary Kofford attended the ceremony. Miss Cleveland Taylor Miller helped with the festivities. The construction company and engineering company also received special recognition at the event. R&O Construction was the contractor for the project. Boss Engineering was the engineer on the project.
The fire station has been in the planning process for a few years now and it has become a reality for the community. The project was funded with a grant/loan from the Permanent Community Impact Board.
The fire station contains the new city hall and town council meetings will be held at the new facility. There is a kitchen area included at the fire station. There are four bays for the fire trucks and one bay for an ambulance. The upstairs at the new station will house a work out and fitness equipment room, the fire chief’s office and a training room.
The training room is very large and will seat a number of people. Cleveland fire department hopes to hold training there and they will be able to invite the entire county fire departments and will be able to accommodate them. The training room can also be used for other meetings in Cleveland.
There are lockers for the fire department volunteers equipment. There are a number of cabinets for storage of fire fighting equipment.
Another feature of the fire station is the new air tank refueling station. They will no longer have to fill their air tanks in Orangeville, as they had the only refueling station in the county.
The day of celebration included tours of the fire station. There were crafts and vendors with products for sale. The fire department cooked lunch for everyone as part of a fund raiser to assist with the Cleveland Days fireworks display. Entertainment filled the air throughout the day as the Emery High cheerleaders, singers, dance groups and other local entertainment performed at the open house. Raffle items were given out during the event.
Cleveland Fire Department is looking forward to the arrival of a new fire truck later on this year.
