PRICE, UTAH-Kenneth Nick Harmon has completed his mortal labors and has been called to rest. He passed peacefully on May 9, 2010 at home. His immediate family affectionately knew him as “Herb.”
Kenneth was born in Moroni, Utah on Feb. 1, 1932 to Samuel Joseph Harmon and Jenavie Boren Harmon.
He married Velma Kelly on June 16, 1956 and shared the rest of his life with his little bride.
Herb served in the 82ND Airborne from 1952-1954. When he returned from the service he worked in the Park City silver mines and at Geneva Steel Works before finally being able to become a union pipefitter-welder with Pipefitters Local 57. He was proud of his union membership in Local 57 and then the later consolidated Utah Local 140.
Herb was proud of his work and he instilled in his family his work ethic. His forced early retirement due to health issues was the only real suffering he endured.
Herb was very proud of his family and their accomplishments. He wouldn’t say it but if you saw his Cheshire Cat grin when his family did well you knew he was proud.
He always enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching his grandchildren at sporting events.
Herb is survived by his wife Velma-Price, children- Brad (Lori) Salt Lake, Cindy (Frank) Burdick-Price, Heidi (Steve) Zamantakis-Helper and Scott (Candie) Phoenix, Ariz., 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, sisters Beth (Al) Pollock-Arizona, Gwenneth (Jack) Taylor-Utah, and Kathy H Thomas-N.C. along with brothers Jack, Arizona and James Lee (Glenda), N.C.
Preceded in death by grandson Kevin Harmon.
Graveside services were held at Wallsburg Cemetery, Wallsburg, Utah on Saturday, May 15 at 1 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends and family are welcome to share memories of Kenneth at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
The family request that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children Intermountain.
