Finally, real football is here for the Emery Spartans and they host Desert Hills this Friday night Aug. 20. Desert Hills, a St. George area high school in their third year of existence, will travel north in hopes of grabbing a victory. These two teams have met the past two seasons and each have a win.
This will be the first of six home games for Emery this season. Other games in Castle Dale will feature Carbon High, Union High for homecoming and region contests with Delta, North Sanpete and Manti. There should be a lot of great football this season.
Emery concluded a long run-up to the season with their annual black and gold game last Friday night. For the record, the white-shirted team came away with the win with a touchdown on the very last play of the game. Final score was 14-8.
Taylor Cox, a senior halfback who led Emery in rushing last season, scored twice. Cox will be counted on to lead this season’s team. Emery will be a veteran team with seven players returning on both offense and defense. Emery and Desert Hills is Friday night at 7 p.m. at Emery High School.
