PRICE-Our loving father, grandfather, and friend, John “Jack” Martin Leamaster, age 86, passed away peacefully Aug. 8, 2010 in Price.
Born June 17, 1924 in Hiawatha, Utah to Martin B. and Beatrice Simmons Leamaster.
Married Shirley A. Kirby, Dec. 25, 1947 in Huntington, Utah; she died May 19,1984.
Jack was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He attended elementary school in Huntington and graduated from North Emery High School. Jack honorably served his country during WWII serving in the US Navy. He was a member of the Huntington American Legion Post # 73 where he was a past commander.
Jack served as the Emery County Sheriff for 16 years. He also served as the past president of the Utah Peace Officers Association and past vice president of the Utah Sheriff’s Association. After serving as sheriff, Jack worked as the security director at Castle Gate Coal.
Jack loved the mountains and he enjoyed fly fishing in Huntington Canyon. He loved mechanicing and tinkering around with cars. He loved shopping for antiques and planting a small garden. He was a member of the Price Elk’s Lodge # 1550.
Jack spent the last three years living at the Beehive Home where he was treated like a king. He dearly loved the family there and wanted to thank them for sharing their lives with him. Jack was so proud of his own family and loved them so much. He will be greatly missed, but “Sheriff Jack” will always be lovingly remembered.
He is survived by his children, Carol (Rick) Callor, Eagle, Idaho, Kay Leamaster, Price, Jon (Terry) Brown, Manitou, Ky; nine grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Shirley; and sisters, Virginia and Sara Lou.
Funeral service will be on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, 11 a.m. Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday evening from 7-8 p.m. and Thursday one hour prior to service. Interment, Huntington City Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Huntington American Legion Post # 73 and the Emery County Sheriff’s Office.
