CARBON COUNTY-Remo Spigarelli died Nov. 24, 2010 at the age of 98 in his granddaughter’s home in Boston after a brief respiratory illness. He was born Oct. 4, 1912 in Hiawatha, Utah to Sisto and Mary Bellucci Spigarelli who were both immigrants from Umbria, Italy.
After completing the eighth grade he went to work in the coal mine to support his family. He spent a long career working for U.S. Fuel at Hiawatha and Sunnyside mines doing mostly welding and machine repair. Remo was a charter member of the United Mine Workers of America District 22 and served his local as a staunch supporter and a delegate to several U.M.W.A. national conventions. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and lifelong member of Notre Dame Parish.
Remo was an exceptionally kind, loving and grateful man and as a result, he had many friends and was always surrounded by people who loved and cared about him. He enjoyed life and was a joy to be around to the end. He especially loved children. He was a wonderful father, and was a great help to his daughter Alice in raising her child Chrysalyne. He always said that his family was everything to him and it was obviously true.
In his last year, he was a daily example to his great-grandchildren of politeness, gratitude, and maintaining a positive attitude. He never dwelled on his difficulty walking or communicating since his stroke, preferring to enjoy what he could in his daily life and being grateful that he could still get around. He thanked his family genuinely and profusely for every cup of coffee and meal brought to him, enjoyed every outing to a restaurant, kids’school show, or family event, and was always ready to give and receive a hug. Those who knew him were the better for it and he will be sorely missed.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Alice Spigarelli; his daughter, Alice Spigarelli Delling; his second wife, Mary Brusatto Carr Spigarelli; and his siblings, Irene Spigarelli Percich, Perena Bladig Marzo, Merena Bladig Perla, Cecil Spigarelli, and Ellen Bladig. Remo is survived by his grandchildren, Chrysalyne Delling Schmults, Brigit Brennan Botero, and Sean Brennan; step-children, Mary Kay Carr Brennan, Tim Carr, and Collene Carr Gillett; great- grandchildren, Thomasin and Annaka Schmults and Carmen Botero; nieces and nephews, Lisa Perla Martinez, Frank Perla, Jolene Marzo Frey, Jimmy Francisco, and Bonnie Kaye.
Funeral Mass, Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church in Price. Vigil service, Monday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell
Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to service. Committal service, Price City Cemetery.
