PRICE-Sharon “Tootsie” Henline Hardman, age 70, passed away in her home on Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, after 14 years battling cancer.
She was born in Magna, Utah on Oct. 23, 1940, the fourth of 11 children of Clarence and Dorothy (Westerman) Henline, and spent most of her childhood in Benjamin and Salem.
She attended Hollywood Beauty School in Provo, Utah where she dated some of the inmates at the mental hospital. She ran away from home to join the circus when she was 15 years old, and instead ended up waitressing at the Sky View Cafe where she met Ralph “Sundown” Hardman. She married him on March 25, 1960.
Sharon and Ralph lived in Lehi and Kaysville, and Craig, Colo. and finally settled in Price, Utah where, much to the chagrin of the neighborhood, they raised their four boys. She and Ralph were sealed in the Manti, LDS Temple on Oct. 10, 2009.
Tootsie worked as a lunch lady at various schools around Price, at the CEU bookstore, at Professional Collections, and at LoveLess Ash. She served in the Cub Scouts, taught Primary, and loved going to Young Women Girl’s Camp as camp director, which she did for many years in the Price Fourth Ward.
As a child, her best talents were spitting, lying, and stealing watermelons from the neighborhood farmers. As an adult, her best talents are collecting odd junk, talking to homeless people on the street corners, and beating cancer. No one will ever know how many people she helped, how many hearts she warmed, and how many people adored her for the humor and spunk that was so uniquely her own-and no one knew from one day to the next what color her hair would be.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dorothy Henline, her sister, Marilyn Hughes, and her sister-in-law, Ilene Henline, and brother-in-law Brad Hoffman, and brothers-in-law Blayne Hardman, Bob Hardman, and sister-in-law Daryhl Spencer.
She leaves behind her husband, Ralph Hardman, her four sons, Scot in Price, Brad (Jerri Llewelyn) in St. George, Craig (Kristen Schade) in Hot Sulpher, Colo., and Steve (Christy Nielson) in Spanish Fork; her grandchildren, Brandie and Broc, Connor, Koriann, Matthew, Noah, James, Charlie, Jacob, Abby, and Sarah; her siblings, Mick Henline, Butch Henline (Helen), Linda Ivie (Bill), Nancy Sperry (Ted), Judy Creer (Richard), Cathy Sayer (Dave), Nona Benner (Dwayne), Lois Hoffman (Keith Johnson) and Stacy (Bart Provstgaard). Ralph’s siblings are Fern Curtis (Howard), Wayne (Linda) Hardman, Alta Mae (Greg) Radmall and Tony Hardman.
Sharon, Ma, Tootsie, Brunhilda we love you and will never forget you. The stories from your life will continue to make us laugh, and we will miss you more than you will ever know. We know you have moved on to a better place where you can see all the beautiful colors you could never see in life.
