ORANGEVILLE-Esther Rauhala Snow passed away on April 15, 2010, in Price.
Born Aug. 10, 1915, our mother, grandmother, and beloved matriarch grew up in the coal camps of Eastern Utah. Her parents, Aina Maenpaa Rauhala and Matti Rauhala came from Finland in the first decade of the century and raised a family of seven in Utah.
Esther’s 1937 marriage to Don W. Snow of Orangeville resulted in three children, all surviving: Karen (Burt) Guymon of Cedar Hills, Utah, Claudia (Jim) Koch of Salem, Ore., and Don R. (Dorothy) Snow of Walla Walla, Wash. Esther was a loving mother and grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. Her intelligence, kindness, and wisdom were and are renowned throughout our family and in the many places where she lived.
She was a gifted storyteller with a phenomenal memory which she carried to the end of her days. During World War II, she tied up her hair and worked in the Hiawatha coal tipple to help fill the labor shortage. She served as well as Hiawatha’s assistant postmistress. In her senior years she volunteered as a docent for the Emery County Museum and the D.A.R.E. program in the public schools. She was preceded in death in 1994 by her beloved husband of 57 years, Don W.
Esther is survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well as eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A very special thank you goes to the staff of Heirloom Inn and the CNS Hospice, Dr. Max Morgan, Dr. Brent Goodsell and their staff who all cared so lovingly for her.
Funeral service Friday, April 23,2010 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home, Price. Family will be at Mitchell’s one hour prior to service. Interment Orangeville City Cemetery, Orangeville, Utah.
