Emery County residents can get involved with recycling

Recycling is an issue of concern to a great many of the residents of rural Utah. Some think there is not much that can be done due to the distances to the recycling centers. A group of concerned citizens have come together to provide the residents of Carbon and Emery counties some answers to the questions they may have about recycling.
This group, called the Green Team, is headed by Jeanne McEvoy and she can be reached at mcevoy@emerytelcom.net. The Green Team has issued an extensive list of what items can be recycled and where these items can be taken. They have also installed a recycling bin in the parking lot at Sutherland’s Lumber in Price. There was a ribbon cutting for this new bin on April 20 at 2 p.m.
Albertsons, now Fresh Market, has a drop off at the entrance of the store for plastic shopping bags. These bags are collected and then recycled.
Bruin Point Elementary School collects cell phones and aluminum. People should take these items to the school.
The Carbon County Landfill will take car batteries, metal and tires. Check in at the landfill office for more details.
Castle Dale Elementary School will take used ink cartridges. Take those used ink cartridges into the school office.
Castle Heights Elementary School collects cell phones and used plastic shopping bags. These items can be taken to the school office.
The Castle Valley Center takes plastic shopping bags also. Take them to the office at the school.
Cell Phones for Soldiers is collecting used cell phones. Log on to www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com for more information to help our soldiers.
The College of Eastern Utah takes soda pop tabs and other aluminum cans. Call Kathy Murray at 613-5284 for information.
Used oil is collected for recycling at Checker Auto Parts. Bring the oil into the store for drop off.
Creekview Elementary is taking plastic shopping bags, used paper of all types, and used ink cartridges. Call Creekview to make arrangements or bring used cartridges in to the school.
For residents living in East Carbon, used oil can be taken to DNB Sinclair.
Food Ranch in Orangeville will take used cardboard. Drop off is on the east loading dock.
Howa’s collects aluminum cans. Call in at the office for more information.
J.C. Penney’s collects plastic shopping bags. Bring the bags to the bin near the downstairs register.
The Price City Library collects used ink cartridges, and all types of paper but shredded and corrugated cardboard. Bring those items to the front desk.
The Price City Police Department and the Emery County Sheriff’s Office will take care of all unused prescription medications and sharps (needles and other sharp items). Contact those offices for more information.
Price Metal, at 510 E. 1250 So. in Price, will take all types of metal.
R&J Recycling collects all types of paper but shredded and corrugated cardboard, and aluminum cans. Call Rick or Julie at 637-5826 to arrange for pick-up.
The UPS Store collects packaging peanuts (Styrofoam and starch). Bring the peanuts into the store.
Tire King and Ultra Lube will both take used oil. Take the used oil to those businesses.
WalMart will take plastic shopping bags, aluminum cans, plastic drinking bottles, used ink cartridges, and used oil. Oil should be taken to the automotive department, ink cartridges should be taken to the ink section, and all other items can be dropped in the boxes at the entrances.
Wellington Elementary School collects used ink cartridges and pop can tabs. Take those items to the school office.
Women’s shelters in both counties will take used cell phones.
New recycling bins are available at Sutherlands where you can drop off paper and aluminum cans.
In each of the post offices a blue recycling bin has been set-up where you can deposit unwanted paper directly at the post office.
