PRICE- Harold Mark Hanson returned to his Heavenly Father April 19, 2010 at age 87.
He entered mortality on Dec. 6, 1922 in Ferron, Utah. His loving parents, Harold Joseph Hanson and Florence Ruby Williams, raised him to understand the value of hard work and integrity.
Mark’s family moved often while he was growing up, so his very best friends were his siblings and family. He studied at Brigham Young University before he was drafted to serve in World War II. He served in the US Army in the South Pacific theatre for three years. He helped establish the 122nd Station Hospital in Fukoa, Japan. The friendships he developed during the war lasted throughout his life.
Mark married his sweetheart, Wilma Mae Oliver on Feb. 20, 1948 in the Manti Temple. They established a home in Price and had four children. He owned and operated his own dental laboratory for 42 years. For many of those years the lab was in the basement of his home. He made false teeth at the work bench and Wilma did the paperwork at the desk facing Mark. They did everything as a team throughout their 62 years of marriage.
Mark served the community as a volunteer fireman for 25 years, Price City Councilman for 12 years and mayor. He was proud of his service to our country and only regretted that he was not able to serve a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because of the war. He made up for this later in his life by diligently serving as a stake missionary for 11 years. He and Wilma served three missions as a senior couple in North Carolina, the Manila, Philippines Temple and the Manti Temple. He served faithfully in many other callings and lived his religion with dedication throughout his life.
Mark loved hunting, fishing, and most of all being with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of his favorite sayings was, “If we can’t learn to get along as a family in this life, we won’t in the next.”
He leaves behind a legacy of family who love and honor him; his wife, Wilma Oliver Hanson; children, Dennis (Sandra) of Price; Evan (Holly) of Tulsa, Okla.; Gayla (Jon) Pressett, Price; Annette (Steven) Leonard, Salt Lake City; siblings, Dorr (Elizabeth), Huntington; Nolan (Joy); Alice (Bill) Cowan, both of Salt Lake City; 12 grandchildren; 23 great- grandchildren who were the center of his life. He was grateful for good family, friends, and neighbors including Norman (Ann) Smith.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Derrick Pressett and his parents.
The family is grateful for Community Nursing Service’s Hospice care especially Tisa and Josie.
Funeral service, Saturday, April 24, 2010, 11 a.m. Price North Stake Center, 449 North 100 East. Family will be at Mitchell Funeral Home Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery.
