Richard Dotson
CLEVELAND – Richard Harley Dotson, age 45 of Cleveland, passed away July 10, 2002 after a valiant battle with cancer at the home of his parents, Richard and Jean Dotson, also of Cleveland.
Rick was born April 19, 1957 in Cottonwood, Ariz. The Dotson family, including Rick’s younger sister, Brenda, moved to Utah in 1971.
Rick started riding horses alone at age 2. He won his first team roping competition in 1963 at the age of 7 with his father as his partner and the help of “Fellar,” his horse.
Rick continued roping and competing throughout high school.
Rick graduated from Emery High in 1976. He won more than 30 first place belt buckles, not counting second and third place awards.
A few years ago, Rick and his dad started Castle Valley Rodeo Company, a family owned and operated business for approximately eight years. They liked helping many kids learn to enjoy the dream of rodeo life.
Rick enjoyed camping, fishing and especially hunting. He loved spending time with his family and friends.
Rick lived on the family farm with Michelle and his son, Josh. Rick enjoyed going to church at Desert Edge Christian Chapel in Huntington and spending time with his special friend, Pastor Carl Sitterud.
Since February when he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma cancer, Rick underwent several surgeries and was under doctors care at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City.
Rick is survived by Michelle; son, Joshua Dotson; his parents; sister, Brenda (Todd) Jensen; niece, Sarah; nephews, J.D. and Wyatt, all of Cleveland; many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends; and very close friend, Rex Malolo.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thanks to Rick’s special cousin, Donna, for her love and care.
Funeral was Saturday, July 13, at the Desert Edge Christian Chapel in Huntington. Burial, Cleveland cemetery under the direction of Mitchell Funeral Home.
Evelyn Louise Pace
ELMO – Our precious wife, mother and grandmother, Evelyn “Eve” Louise Pace slipped peacefully away on the morning of July 10, 2002 at her home in Elmo. She was born Feb. 20, 1922 to Franklin A. and Georgia E. Wilde Foster. She married Russell D. Pace on May 27, 1946 and became the mother of five children.
Eve was a wonderful homemaker. She loved her family, her home, her flower gardens and her pets. She enjoyed poetry, camping, fishing, and took a special pride in making her home beautiful for the holidays.
Eve is survived by her five children; Kim (Mark) Nelson, Boulder; Kathie (Jerry) Anderson, Elmo; Cal Pace, Price; Kristi (Jim) Snyder, Huntington; Cliff Pace and Brenda, Boulder; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband who was the one true love of her life. Also four brothers and sisters.
Friends called for a visitation at the Fausett Mortuary in Price on July 15 from 12-1:30 p.m. A graveside service was held at the Elmo City Cemetery in Elmo at 2 p.m. Interment followed.
David Jones
SUNNYSIDE, ELKO, Nevada – David Reuel Jones, 40, was born May 4, 1962 to Keith and Geraldine Jones of Sunnyside. David passed away in Elko, Nev. July 10, 2002.
David married Vickie Everett and had four children, Rodney, Kenny, Bradley and Shaylean. Later divorced. David married Candace Boecker and had two children, Felicia and Alicia and resided in Elko, Nev.
David was a lover of the outdoors, hunting and fishing.
Survived by mother, of Joe’s Valley; siblings, Roger and Susan Jensen, of Castle Dale; Russell and Jacka Jones, of Castle Dale; John and Kathy Lozinsky, of Hayden, Colo.; Roger and Carla Jones, of East Carbon; Don and Peggy Swanson, of American Fork; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by father.
Private family services were held.
Loie Beach
FERRON – Loie Rebecca Miner Beach returned to her Heavenly Father July 11, 2002.
She was born Oct. 25, 1901 in Fairview, Sanpete County, to Melvin Orson and Mary Elnora Young Miner. In 1929 she came to Ferron, to teach school. It was then she met her eternal companion, sweetheart and friend, Francis Lyman Beach. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple June 29, 1931. They had a happy peaceful life together for 51 years.
Loie had a long and fruitful life and she was blessed with many gifts and talents. After graduating from Brigham Young University she taught school for 30 years touching the lives of many students who still remember her and are as grateful for her influence as she was for their continued friendship. Loie loved music and enjoyed playing the piano, especially hymns. In her later years she so much appreciated those who came and sang and played for her. She had a gift for writing and composed much beautiful poetry, also many tributes, presentations and lessons. These have brought joy to the lives of many.
As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints she accepted many callings, both executive and teaching positions which she fulfilled to the best of her ability. The call she loved most was the time she spent as an ordinance worker in the Manti LDS Temple with her beloved husband. Service to God and her fellowman was her creed and she truly lived by it. She gave unselfishly of herself, her time and her means to all. Loie is missed by all who knew her. She leaves a legacy of strength from her example and her enduring.
Survived by daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and Lamont Arnold; six grandsons, 22 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson; brother, Dean (Blanche) Miner, Vineyard; and sister-in-law, Ethelyn Miner, St. George. Preceded in death by husband, parents, two sisters, one brother and one great-grandson.
Funeral service will be held in the Ferron LDS Blue Hills Ward Chapel, located at 200 N. State Street, Tuesday, July 16, at 1 p.m. A last “good-bye” celebrating her life one hour prior to services. Interment, Ferron City cemetery under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Eduardo Velasquez
EAST CARBON – Eduardo Velasquez, age 92, passed away peacefully at his home July 12, 2002.
He was born Nov. 2, 1909 in Coyote, N.M., to Celestino and Reducinda Gallegos Velasquez. Married Delores Jacquez Nov. 21, 1932 in Cuba, N.M.
Eduardo was an active member of the Assembly of God Church, where he was involved in the music ministry of his church and he left his family a legacy of a Christian heritage. He was the recipient of the “Wings of Eagles Honoree Award 2001.” Retired member of the United Mine Workers of American Horse Canyon/U.S. Steel Local 8003.

M.; Willie (Olga) Velasquez, Grand Junction, Colo.; and sister, Carlota Martinez, Bloomfield, N. M.
Funeral service Tuesday, July 16, 10 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday one hour prior to services. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside.
