Each year in partnership with the Utah Commission on Volunteers, the Volunteer Centers of Utah present a Silver Bowl Award to one outstanding volunteer from each of Utah’s 29 counties. A tradition that traces back to 1979, each recipient is presented with engraved silver bowls, hence the name “Silver Bowl Award.”
This award honors individuals and groups who enrich the lives of others through dedicated volunteer service.
This year, Nancy Dunham of Green River, Utah was a recipient of the Silver Bowl award for Emery County. Nancy Dunham is a warm loving woman who has served her community all of her life.
She and her husband raised six children of their own and many who weren’t. She served on the American Legion’s Auxiliary for 50+ years. She feeds and houses homeless people sometimes with food from her own farm.
Most recently, and not to exclude her other selfless activities, she has been serving on the PACT Board (which operates the Green River Community Center, Boys and Girls Club, Epicenter, apartments, and Thrift Store) for eight years and volunteers on many other boards throughout Emery County.
She is a pillar in the Green River Bible Church extending a warm hand to friends and neighbors. Nancy volunteers in her community Green River wearing many different hats, and has been a main stay in keeping Green River alive and prospering. Green River calls her the “Melon Queen,” she has made friends all over world from her melon stand (which sits on East Main).
