Emery High is now 3-0 in region 12 baseball action after narrowly picking up another region win last week, this time over the Delta Rabbits. Emery defeated Delta 4-3 on Friday in Castle Dale. Emery traveled to Uintah High School earlier in the week and came home with another close win, this time 7-6 over the Utes.
Uintah scored first in their game as they picked up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. A pair of Emery errors put Uintah runners on first and second and the next batter doubled to score two runs and put Uintah up 2-0.
Uintah scored two more runs in the third inning to lead 4-0. A walk, a single, an Emery error and another single scored two more runs for the host team. None of the runs for Uintah up to now were earned.
Emery finally got something going in the fourth inning. Nevin Jensen singled and then stole second base and third base to get to scoring position. After an Emery strikeout, Nathan Mecham walked and stole second. Geren Payne then got on base due to an error and he promptly stole second base. Kash Jewkes got on due to another error and then also stole second base. Quinn Montgomery became the third straight Emery batter to get on base due to a Uintah error. Gage Bell singled followed by a Braden Bolotas single and Emery had scored five runs and had grabbed the lead at 5-4. Bolotas got put out on base to end the inning. Uintah scored two more runs in the bottom of the inning and retook the lead at 6-5. A double, an Emery error and another double pushed the two runs across the plate. Emery answered with a run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the score and then got the winning run in the top of the seventh inning. In the sixth inning, Kashe Jewkes homered on an 0-2 pitch to tie the score at 6-6. In the seventh inning, Bolotas doubled to left centerfield and then scored on a Payne single.
Emery picked up 11 base hits in the game and committed four errors that kept the Utes actually in the game. Bolotas had three hits while Jensen, Mecham and Jewkes all had two hits in the game. Uintah had five hits and committed three errors.
The Delta Rabbits picked up five base hits and scored three runs in their game with Emery but all three Rabbit runs were unearned as Emery continued being nice and committing errors, four of them in this game. Delta scored twice in the third inning. A walk, an Emery error, another Emery error and a double led to two runs in this inning. In the fourth inning, an Emery error and a double led to their other run. Emery scored their first run in the bottom of the first inning. Bolotas got hit by a pitch, got to second base on a passed ball by the Rabbit catcher and then scored on a single by Jensen.
Emery got another run in the bottom of the third inning. Jensen singled, Mecham singled and Jensen scored on another Rabbit error as Jewkes got on base due that error.
Emery then added two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. After Montgomery singled, Quinn got out at second base on a fielder’s choice hit by Gage Bell but Bell is now at first. Bolotas got hit by another pitch followed by Jensen getting hit by a pitch and now the bases are loaded. Mecham doubled and both Bell and Bolotas scored on the hit. A groundout ended the inning with two runners still on base. Emery pitching only allowed two base runners over the last three innings as Emery got the win. Jensen, Mecham and Montgomery each had two base hits in the game and were the only Emery hits in the game. Emery now plays Richfield at home Tuesday afternoon and travels to Manti Friday.
