ELMO-Shirley McElroy Toler, age 89, passed away Jan. 4, 2010 at his daughter’s home in Elmo.
He was born Aug. 2, 1920 in Daviess, Ky. to William and Pauline Mayes Hurt Toler.
Mac served in the US Army during World War II and shortly after returning from the service he married Violet Thompson on Dec. 21, 1947 in Bowling Green, Ohio. She preceded him in death on Sept. 2, 2000.
Mac loved to work with his hands. His favorite pastimes included working on engines of all types, restoring old chairs and tables and repairing anything that needed a little tender loving care. For years Mac worked for Detroit Motor Transportation as a foreman. Dad was always willing to help a neighbor or friend in need .
Mac had a wonderful sense of humor and he loved a good practical joke. He was friendly and well liked by all.
He is survived by his sisters, Margaret Knadler, Carmel, Ind., Dorothy Kessinger, Kentucky; son, James Toler, Brandon, Fla.; daughter, Mary Ann (Boyd) Moosman, Elmo; grandchildren, Brandi Sinclair, Macy Moosman, Jessica Moosman, all of Price, April Swasey, Darrell Swasey, both of Vernal, Charlette Moosman, Elmo, William C. Toler Jr., Roseville, Mich.; grandson Johathon MacDonald, NewPort Richey, Fla.; great-granddaughters, Katilyn Moosman and Alyssa Croft, both of Price; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son, William C. Toler; and brother, James Toler.
A celebration of Mac’s life will be held at the home of Mary Ann and Boyd Moosman, 1405 North Center Street in Elmo on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 from 1-3 p.m.
