The Emery High Lady Spartans struggled in two preseason matches last week. On Tuesday, Emery traveled to Carbon High and lost in three straight sets to the Dinos.
Scores for the night were 25-16, 25-13 and 25-22.
Emery then returned home on Thursday night and hosted the North Sevier Wolves. They lost this night in five sets. The scores were 25-21, 21-25,21-25, 26-24 and 15-9.
Against Carbon in the first set, Emery and the Dinos were tied at 9-9 when Carbon scored seven straight points to grab control of the game and coasted home from there to an easy victory.
In set two, Emery led 3-1 when the Dinos scored six straight to lead 7-3. The score then went to 12-5 and 18-9, as the home team owned the court this night.
Emery did make set three close. Emery led 3-0 and 9-6 before the Dinos tied the score at 14-14. Emery tied the score at 17-17 but Emery could never reclaim the lead and Carbon closed the night out in three straight.
Against North Sevier in the first set, Emery trailed 17-16 but scored the last six points to grab the win. In the next two sets, Emery did not seem to be as in tune as the previous game and lost two sets that they probably could of and should of won.
In game two, the score was tied at 17-17 and 19-19 before the Wolves grabbed the win. Game three was kind of the same thing. The score was tied at 12-12 and at 16-16 before North Sevier again grabbed the win.
Emery tied the score with an overtime win in game four. Emery grabbed the early lead at 5-0 and at 13-7 and at 19-14. North Sevier led 24-23 before Emery scored the final three points to win.
In the final game of the night, Emery fell behind early and then could never get close as the Wolves finished the Spartans off with a six-point win.
Playing for Emery were seniors Brooke Jensen, Courtney Tuttle and Adrie Huntington. Also playing were Brittany Fauver, Kaitlyn Thompson, Shandee Jewkes, Hailee Rogers and Blayr Jeffs.
