Aaris Edgar “Brig” Young, age 85, passed away Tuesday May 25, 2010 in Delta, Utah after a happy life. Brig was born Sept. 16, 1924 in Huntington, Utah to Alvin Little and Margaret Ellen Johnson Young. Growing up in Huntington, dad loved to sing with his brothers and cousins on the corner on Saturday nights. Brig served during World War II in the US Army Air Corp. Following his military service he met his sweetheart Kathy at a baseball game. He loved going to any activity his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in. Whether it was baseball, golf, wrestling, or dance recitals, he was always there. His grandchildren have great memories of going to the Saturday Matinee movie with grandpa.
He coached many youth baseball and softball teams and was proud of his softball coaching record of 68 wins and 16 losses. Dad said, “We go to our games with a happy feeling. If we win, that’s fine, and if we lose, we congratulate the other team and leave the game feeling we did the best we could do.” He was often the first to tee off at Meadowbrook Golf Course, often starting before daylight.
Brig loved helping other people. After a snow storm, dad was out shoveling neighbors sidewalks before they had even woke up. He also enjoyed serving his church, working in the Jordan River Temple as well as being ward choir president.
Mom and dad loved to dance together and he is saving the last waltz for Kathy.
Brig is survived by his wife: Kathy; children: Linda (Mike) Bringhurst, Delta; Jeff (Debbie) Young, Farmington, N.M.; Craig (Shanon) Young, Delta, Utah, 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents: Alvin Little Young and Margaret Ellen Johnson.
Funeral Services were held Friday May 28, 2010 at 1 p.m. at the LDS Delta Stake Center. Burial was in the Delta City Cemetery.
