The combined efforts of the Emery and Carbon county sheriff’s offices will result in the Emergency Preparedness Fair on June 18 at the Spartan Center.
The fair will begin at 4-8 p.m. Events, demonstrations and speakers will be presented during the fair.
Nielson Construction is offering free hamburgers and hotdogs for their support of the event.
Sheriff LaMar Guymon said, “There will be showings of the Crandall Canyon Presentation. The powerpoint presentation at this year’s fair was originally commissioned for and presented at the Governor’s Public Safety Summit 2009. The presentation is a touching look into the most recent mine accident and tragedy that stunned our locale as well as the state, Aug. 6, 2007. Six coal miners were trapped after a mine collapse. Later, on Aug. 16, 2007, the mine collapsed again when one of the walls of the tunnel exploded outwards, killing three rescue workers and injuring six others. The community pulled together in support of the miners, rescue workers and their families. This presentation will take a look at the full scope of the incident including rescue attempts, with insightful interviews and pictures of the ensuing impact on miners, emergency responders and the community. The focus of the show is on the heroic efforts of the rescue workers who were willing to endanger their lives for the trapped miners. I will be on hand at the presentation for any discussion and questions.”
Ron Mosher noted Homeland Security expert wil be the featured speaker at the event. Displays and booths showing emergency preparedness items will be on display in the Spartan Center. The speakers will be in the auditorium. The Crandall Canyon presentation will be in the Little Theatre of the Spartan Center. The LifeFlight helicopter and canine demonstrations will be on the football field.
