School’s out but lunch is still in at area schools

School’s out, but lunch is still in. Emery School District is sponsoring a summer lunch program for children. The sites and serving times will be, Ferron Elementary cafeteria, 100 West Mill Rd. Ferron, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; Huntington Elementary cafeteria, 70 E. 100. N., Huntington. 11 a.m.-12:30p.m.; OK Anderson Park, 85 N. Solomon St., Green River 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
All sites will operate beginning June 7 and feed children Monday through Friday until July 30, except July 5 and July 26. Meals to children are free. Parents are encouraged to accompany young children to the sites. When all children have been served, adults may purchase a remaining meal for $3.50 cash only. Adults are not allowed to eat off the child’s tray by Federal law. Meal service will be 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at all three sites; no meals can be served outside of our time frame, no meals can leave the site. Children should clean up after themselves and follow the adult supervisor’s directions. Funding for this program is provided by the US Dept. of Agriculture from import taxes on foods from other countries. No other activities, such as day care or other child supervision, will be available at the feeding locations. Meals are free for all children 18 years and under.
Jeneane Warren food supervisor said, “We have some fun things happening this year in connection to the free meal sites. We are having a ‘Lets Read’ program. If the students go to a local library and get a book to read or attend the libraries summer reading program, they can get a star punched on their card. When it’s full bring it to a summer lunch program and get a small prize. Also The Utah State Extension Office will be holding a ‘Food Sense-Fun Food and Reading” program from 10:30-11 a.m. just before our meal service in the school cafeterias except Green River where lunch is being held at OK Anderson Park.
“Food Sense-Fun Food and Reading dates are: Huntington cafeteria 10:30-11 a.m., June 8, 15, 22 and July 13 and 20. Ferron cafeteria 10:30-11 a.m. June 10, 17 and 24 and July 15 and 22. OK Anderson Park 10:30-11 a,m. June 11, July 9 and 16. Kids please come and attend these activities and have a free meal. Lunch is free for anyone 18 and under. We ask that anyone over 18 pay $3.50,” said Warren.
Lunch menu for June 9 is deli ham sandwich, chips, pears, celery sticks, vegetarian beans, cookie, milk and tampico. June 10 menu is pizza pockets, french fries, green salad, fruit salad, milk and tampico; June 11 menu is burrito, nachos, scoops, fruit cocktail, corn, tampico and milk. June 14 lunch menu is hot dog on a bun, wedges, carrot sticks, blueberries and topping, carnival cookie, tampico and milk; June 15 is hamburger, bun and chips, tropical fruit cocktail, baked beans, tampico and milk.
