Susan Sommers and Clawson Mayor Mandie Price set aside May 15 to ask for volunteers to take care of the trees at the Clawson Cemetery. This is a very old cemetery and to provide room for those that have requested plots Clawson is opening up a new section of the cemetery on the north side. The old section of the Clawson Cemetery cannot be used now, because there are too many unmarked graves.
Dean Allen used his tractor to grade the gravel road to the cemetery. Connie and Dean Allen help keep the water and drip system going.
Connie Allen and Mandie Price picked up sage brush loosened by the grading. Susan and Mandie were assisted by Larry Gregersen who pruned trees. Larry said he learned to prune trees in Fairbanks, Alaska.
The trees have been planted over the past few years, now Clawson residents are trying to revive those trees. Trees in Clawson, especially on the cemetery hill west of Clawson, have a difficult time surviving. A drip system is being used to provide water to the planted trees. One year the drip system caused the ground around the trees to be too wet and a big wind blew some of the trees over. That year several trees had to be replaced.
