Green River track begins season at Moab Red Rocks meet

The Green River Pirates track team attended the Red Rocks Invitational track meet at Grand County High School on March 13 and came away pumped.
You see, last year the Pirates ended the track season with three students (and one was injured and couldn’t compete) so having nine attend the first track meet of the 2010 season was a bonus.
The Pirates took seven girls and two boys. Sarah Swalberg and Megan Hatt were the two returning track members who performed very well. Sarah took first place in the javelin against some much larger schools with a throw of 123′ and second in the shot put with a put of 31′ 10″, while Megan Hatt made it to the finals in the long jump and took fifth overall with a jump of 14′ 3″.
Track newcomers Melissa Antillion and Michaela Hughes along with Sarah and Megan posted a 58.57 in the girls 4X100 relay, not super quick but only five tenths slower than rival Monticello. Michaela Hughes posted a 30.84 in the 200 M along with Dallice Johnson with a 32.93, Kelsee Robertson with a 33.93 and Corrinne Hansen with a 35.84.
Now, these times won’t break any records but these times reflect freshmen girls attending their first track meet with a week of practice and their willingness to step into events they realized they would run a half hour before the starting gun.
Along with running events, Melissa Antillion jumped her personal best of 12′ 7.5″ and Dallice Johnson jumped her personal best of 12′ 1″.
On the boys side, newcomer Keith Clark tossed the discus 80′ 5.5″ and put the shot 30′ 9.5″ while Richard Wilson busted out a javelin throw of 125′ 8″ to take fifth place overall. In the boys running events, Richard posted a personal best of 12.31 in the 100 M and a 25.73 in the 200 M.
