Our loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Paul Edward Hill 70, passed away peacefully March 5, 2010. He was born April 26, 1939 in Castle Dale, Utah, to Paul Freeland Hill and Udella M. Wayman. Married his high school sweetheart Helen Renae Hardy, May 3, 1957 in Dragerton, Utah. She passed on Sept. 16, 1991. Married Verla L. Beradi in 1993, they divorced in 2003. Married Pat Richardson May 6, 2006.
Paul served in the US Navy from 1956-1960. He returned home to Dragerton, Utah for a short visit before re-enlisting. During this “short stay” he was offered a temporary job at the mine where his father worked. He fell in love with coal mining and never left. He worked for Bookcliff, Horse Canyon, Pot-Ash Mine in Moab, Kaiser, and Hiawatha then went to work for Joy Mining and Machinery.
Paul had a great love of the outdoors and especially the deserts of Utah. He was involved for many years with the Wild Life Federation and East Carbon’s Search and Rescue. An avid motorcycle enthusiast all his life, he was a member of the Gold Wing Association and continued riding even after losing his leg in a motorcycle accident. A longtime member of the CCOHV Association, he actively advocated open lands and public access, 4-wheeling became his “legs” to experiencing the beauty of Utah’s mountains and deserts.
Paul had a great love for his family and was his grandsons’ biggest fan at sporting events. He will always be remembered for the love and laughter he brought to everyone he knew.
Survived by wife Pat Hill, sons, Bill (Becky) Hill of Price, Mike (Alice) Hill of Montrose, Colo., and extended children Brian (Cindy) Beradi of Salt Lake City, Monica (Brian) Silcox of Salt Lake City, Tony (Mike) Green of Salt Lake City, Lynette Richardson of Salt Lake City, Sandra Mangum of Huntington, Brandon Richardson of Salt Lake City, Sara Richardson of Delta, Colo., and BriannaRae (Earl) Tucker of Elmo, 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, sisters, Irene Gish of Salt Lake City, Shirley Hill of Wellington.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 9 2010 at 11 a.m. at Price Third Ward, 303 West 500 South, Price. A viewing was held from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary, on Monday, March 8 2010, and will also be held 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior the services at the church. Interment will be in the Castle Dale City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Friends and family may sign the guestbook and share memories of Paul at www.fausettmortuary.com.
