Judith (Judi) Smith Baker, 64, passed away March 17, 2010 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, Utah following a brave battle with leukemia. She was born Feb. 8, 1946 in Salt Lake City. She married George Floyd Baker on Sept. 28, 1965 in Price and was later sealed to her family in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
Judi’s life and ambitions were centered around her children. She often commented that her greatest goal and desire in life was to be a mother. It was a role she was passionate about and deeply devoted to. Her love for her children and grandchildren was powerful and unending. She also had a great love of her many nieces and nephews.
Among her many talents, was her gift for loving and caring for children. She loved operating her own day care for many years, caring for a multitude of the children in her community. She worked for 16 years at Emery County Care and Rehabilitation Center where she diligently served and loved the residents and staff.
She held many callings in the LDS Church throughout her life and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ.
Judi loved a good mystery novel, cooking large amounts of delicious food, and rocking out to very loud rock-n-roll music. She enjoyed shopping, crocheting and gems. Among her greatest joys were sitting in her rocking chair in her front yard, visiting with neighbors and watching the neighborhood children play. Above all else, Judi loved Christmas and a good piece of chocolate.
Judi’s generosity knew no bounds. If she had a dollar, it was yours. Her thoughts and actions were always centered around others, especially her children and grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor, a hearty laugh, a quick smile, and kind word for everyone she met.
Judi is survived by her children, Ryan (Layna) Baker of Price, Tiffani Baker of Orangeville, Matthew Baker of Salt Lake City, and Kelly (Tatum) Baker of Spanish Fork; and her grandchildren Sarah Jane and Coleton Lee of Price and Paiton McCall and her soon-to-be little brother, of Spanish Fork. Also survived by her mother, Sarah Jane Smith of Carbonville; brother, Greg Smith of Vail, Colo., brother, Roger (Karen) Smith of Castle Dale, sister, Colleen Hatch of American Falls, Idaho, sister-in-law, Bonnie Smith of Orem, and mother-in-law, Bess Baker of Richfield.
Preceded in death by her husband, George Floyd Baker, father, Forrest Smith, brother, Grant Smith, brother, Leon Smith, sister, Sharon Smith, sister, Evona Smith and father-in-law, Floyd Baker.
Services were held Monday, March 22, at 11 a.m. in the Orangeville Third Ward Chapel in Castle Dale. The family would like to thank the Orangeville Third Ward Relief Society for their compassionate service. Interment took place in the Orangeville City Cemetery.
The family would also like to extend special thanks to the Utah Valley Hospital staff for the patience and tender care which they gave to Judi and to all of the family and friends who extended their love and support in her time of need.
