CLEVELAND-Andrew Lee Mortensen, age 81, passed away Tuesday morning March 23, 2010, at his home in Cleveland, Utah. Andy was born on July 15, 1928, to Martin and Louise Christensen Mortensen in Cleveland, Utah. He married the love of his life, Charlene White, also of Cleveland, on Dec.5, 1953.
Andy was one of nine children. At the age of 17 he moved to Cedar City, Utah, where he herded sheep and drove a truck. He joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1952. Andy was a farmer, raised livestock, and worked in the coal mines. He was a member of the UMWA.
He loved his family. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Andy is survived by his wife, Charlene of Cleveland; a son, Les (Suzy) Mortensen of Ferron; a daughter, Cindy (Troy) George of Rowlett, Texas; a son-in-law, Doug Shiew of Clawson; five granddaughters: Kristi, Ashley, Jenny, Brandi, and Lindsey; a grandson, Brian; a great-granddaughter, Jacey; great-grandsons, Linclon, Caleb, Brayden, and Noah; a brother, Melvin of Cleveland; and a sister, Martina of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessie Shiew; a grandson, Jason Shiew; his parents, Martin and Louise; three brothers: Devier, Charles, and Nels; and three sisters: Grace, Stella, and Neta.
Graveside services were Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Cleveland City Cemetery. Services were in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guestbook and share memories of Andy at www.fausettmortuary.com.
