HELPER-August Lynn Wilstead, age 88, died March 14, 2010, in Castleview Hospital, Price, Utah. He was born May 23, 1921, in Lawrence, Emery County, Utah, to Alfred Henry Wilstead and Clara Elizabeth Staker. He married Mable Arlene Taylor, Jan. 17, 1947. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on Jan. 17, 1997, on their 50th wedding anniversary.
Lynn grew up in Lawrence, Utah. As a young man, he worked in the CC camps during the depression. He later served honorably in the 1230 Infantry Regiment in the United States Army as a light machine gunner in the Pacific Theater of World War II. For 29 months he was a squad leader in the Philippines, New Guinea, and the occupation of Japan. He worked in various mines in Carbon County for 35 years and was a proud member of the UMWA having received a 70 year recognition pin. He also worked on the construction of Carbon Power Plant, Joe’s Valley Dam, and various road projects located in Carbon, Emery, and Utah counties. Lynn felt his family was his biggest blessing; they were the sunshine of his life. At the time of his death he was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Bill, Ray, Dessa Snow, Dodd, Fred, Melba Mills, and Lee. He is survived by his loving wife, Arlene; children, Peggy Lynn (Alan) Wright, Claudia A. (Walter K.) Donaldson, Bud A (Nanette Curtis) Wilstead; sister, Clara E. Peterson; 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 18, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Helper Stake Center located at 150 Ridgeway St. The viewing will be held Wednesday, March 17, 2010 from 6-8 p.m. at the Fausett Mortuary located at 680 E. 100 S. Price, Utah. Interment will be in the Helper Cemetery following funeral services. Family and friends may sign the guestbook and share memories of Lynn at www.fausettmortuary.com.
