Evelyn Brandon, 93, passed away on March 4 in Grand Junction, Colo. She was born in Templeton, Calif. to Roscoe and Elsie Murray.
After graduating from San Jose State College she taught physical education in Fortuna, Calif., before marrying Jack Brandon, a dashing Air Force pilot, who was born in Castle Dale.
The family traveled extensively during Jack’s career as a pilot and civil engineer, living in Alaska, Colorado, Hawaii, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and California. Evelyn enjoyed life in each location-camping, fishing and skiing in Alaska and Colorado, and sailing and hula dancing in Hawaii.
Evelyn and Jack retired to Lompoc in 1968 where they enjoyed tennis, dancing, singing, digging clams at Pismo Beach, Lompoc history, and flying Jack’s plane to Colorado and Joes Valley, Utah, where they built a family cabin. Jack died in 2001, and Evelyn moved to Grand Junction in 2004.
She is survived by four sons-John in San Rafael, Tom in Colorado Springs, Dale in Grand Junction, and Richard in Santa Paula-their wives Ute, Gail, Sherry, and Debbie, 11 grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
Evelyn’s life will be celebrated at the family cabin in August. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fisher Center for Alzheimer’s Research Foundation, One Intrepid Square, West 46th Street and Twelfth Ave., New York, NY 10036; or Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B North 12th St., Grand Junction, CO 81506.
