Spring sports continue as baseball and softball win a few lose a few under wintry playing conditions

The Emery High Spartans played five games and won three of those games. Emery started with a 12-6 victory over ranked Cedar and then lost an 11-2 game against ranked Carbon in Price. Emery then traveled to Montrose, Colo. and defeated Moffatt County 11-7 and Olathe 9-4 and lost to host Montrose 16-6.
Against Cedar, Emery picked up 13 base hits while Cedar only got six hits off Emery pitching. Colter Moore started the game on the mound and Geren Payne pitched in relief for the Spartans. Emery led 2-0 in the third inning when five straight Cedar batters got on base and scored four runs and Emery trailed 4-2. The next three Cedar batters struck out to end the inning.
Emery then added four in the bottom of the inning to regain their lead. Nathan Mecham opened the inning with a double followed by a walk to Nick Stoddard. After a ground out on a bunt, Quinn Montgomery delivered a single. After Braden Bolotas doubled, Nevin Jensen followed up with another double for Emery.
Emery then scored four more the next inning to open up a six run lead. Moore opened with a double followed by a Mecham single. Payne got hit by a pitch, Montgomery singled again and finally Jensen singled home the last run. In the sixth inning, Bell doubled and Jensen ended the scoring with a homerun. Emery had 13 base hits in the game with five being doubles and Jensen hitting a homerun. The doubles were by Jensen, Bolotis, Moore, Mecham and Payne.
Against Carbon, Emery and Carbon were tied at 2 -2 after the fifth inning and the Dinos scored nine runs in the sixth inning to win the game. Emery had six hits in the game versus seven hits for the Dinos. Emery committed four errors while Carbon committed only one. Jensen, Moore and Mecham each hit a double in the game.
In the three games in Colorado, Emery hit the ball really well as they pounded out 30 hits in the three games. Bell was eight for 11 at the plate as the leadoff batter. Bell had two doubles and a triple in those eight hits.
Also with multiple hits in the Colorado games for the Spartans were Chance Huntington with three base hits in the one game he played, Payne with four hits, Moore with three hits, Jensen with three hits and Stoddard with three.
Against Moffatt County, Bolotas scored in the first inning after being hit by a pitch. Mecham, Payne, Montgomery and Bell all scored in the second inning on three hits, a walk and another hit batsman. In the third inning, Mecham, Stoddard, Payne, Montgomery and Bell all scored after a single, two doubles and two triples. Emery scored two more in the fourth inning. Jensen and Jewkes each scored with Jensen hitting a triple. Montgomery had a triple and Bolotas and Stoddard each had a double.
Against Montrose, Bolotas, Jensen and Moore scored in the first inning, Bell scored in the second inning and Bell and Bolotas scored in the fourth inning. Bell had a double in the game, Jensen a triple and Moore a homerun.
In the game against Olathe, Bell scored in the first inning. Bell, Mecham, Jewkes, Payne and Huntington each scored in the second inning. In the fourth inning, Huntington scored again. Moore scored in the fourth inning when he hit another homerun and Bell scored in the sixth inning to close out the scoring. Moore, Stoddard and Huntington each had a double in the game.
Emery opened region play with victories at home over Manti and on the road over Juab. After Manti led 2-0 after the top of the third inning, Emery scored a single run in the bottom of the third inning and five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the win. Final score was 6-2. Juab scored first in the bottom of the first inning to go up 1-0 but Emery would score two in the third inning, two in the fifth inning and one more in the seventh inning to win 5-1.
Colter Moore pitched a complete game for the win over Manti and Braden Bolotis did the same in the win over Juab. Moore also hit a homerun in both games. Against Manti, Bolotas, Gage Bell and Geren Payne each had a double. Against Juab, Jensen and Stoddard each had a double.
