The Emery County Relay for Life committee recently held their 2010 Relay For Life Kick-off Party. The theme for this year’s relay is Saving More Lives…Celebrating More Birthdays. This year the Committee Chair is Amanda Bjarnson and her Co-Chairs are Vicki Crosland and Emily Neilson. The three welcomed everyone in attendance and began the meeting with the following information.
“We thank you for being part of our annual event. Thanks to the generous donations, enthusiastic walkers, dedicated volunteers and countless others, last year we raised $22,000 in the fight to find a cure. This year our goal is $35,000. A big portion of the money raised was donated the night of the relay. While this was a fantastic show of support, it was overwhelming to the accountants trying to balance and confirm donations. This year, the committee is asking that the majority of the fundraising efforts be focused on the months leading up to the event. They have created a packet to generate ideas for volunteers as they set out to raise money. They will also hold monthly meetings to update volunteers on the event,” the committee said.
As an incentive to get people involved and to encourage fundraising, awards will be given for the most funds raised by an individual team and as an individual, most laps completed by a team and as an individual and for best team spirit and decorated tent site.
The night also included an inspirational talk from guest speaker and cancer survivor Barbara Piccolo of Price and refreshments provided by Cold Stone Creamery of Price.

Organizers said, “Relay For Life is not just a fundraiser, it is about a community that takes up the fight. Let’s show everyone just how great our community can be.”
