Desert Thunder Raceway has been a promoter of Utah’s Zero Fatalities campaign for three years. Harvey Howard, owner of Desert Thunder Raceway along with the Utah Department of Highway Safety and the Southeastern Utah Health Department have been working hard to get the word out about the Zero Fatalities campaign. Additionally to promoting the campaign out at the track, Howard’s 14 year old son and race car driver Wyatt is a member of the International Motor contest association. He drives the Zero Fatalities” car and gives promotional items at every race he attends. This year alone they have gone to 35 races in five different states.
Wyatt is a top knotch racer and he is the youngest ever to finish in the top three in the Western US Region. The Zero Fatalities car is sponsored by Bucyrus, Savage, Choice Inc. and Dr. Mark Olson.
Harvey and Wyatt have spent a lot of personal time getting involved in promoting the “Zero Fatalities” campaign.
Harvey was nominated by the Utah Highway Safety Office for his award. Georgina Nowak was attending the health department regional safe kids conference in Portland, Oregon when she found out Harvey Howard had won the award. They gave Nowak the award to present to Howard. Nowak presented the award at a Bucyrus safety meeting on Oct. 18. She also gave a presentation on Safe Kids and Zero Fatalities to the workers of Bucyrus.
Harvey is also a big supporter of Buckle Up and the proper use of seat belts and car seats for children.
