Last week, the Emery High volleyball team went on the road for one match and at home against Juab splitting the contests. Emery hosted Juab on Tuesday and defeated the Wasps 3-1. Emery then traveled to region leader Delta on Thursday and lost 3-1.
Against Juab, Emery lost the first game 25-22 only to come back and win the next three 25-15, 25-20 and 25-14. Emery played well in this match against a team they needed to beat in order to maintain their play-off positioning.
Emery then traveled to Delta to face the Rabbits. Delta has only lost twice at home this season and those games came against higher ranked teams. Emery lost 25-16, 25-14, 18-25 and 25-11 as the Rabbits stayed perfect in region 12 action this season.
With two weeks to go in region action, Delta stands 7-0 for the region season with only a match against North Sanpete that went to the Rabbits 3-2 a challenge for them. Delta is ranked fifth by the city newspapers.
Richfield is right behind at 6-1, losing only to Delta. Delta handled the Wildcats easily in their first match. Richfield will face Delta again in the final match of the season before play-offs begin.
North Sanpete is 5-3 with a match against Delta left. Emery is solid at number four with a 3-5 record and will face Manti this Tuesday on the road in their only action of the week. Emery will host Richfield next week.
Juab is 1-6 and Manti is 0-7 this region season with Juab’s only victory over Manti.
Currently, perennial powerhouse Morgan is ranked number 1 in the state. This is the same position the Trojans were in last year when North Sanpete rose up and denied them the championship. Hurricane is second, Desert Hills is third and Juan Diego is fourth.
