The Emery high boy’s basketball teams lost two region 12 games last week to finish the first half of region play with a 1-4 record. Emery lost to Richfield 56-46 in a game that they probably could have won with a little better execution and on Friday night, Emery lost big to North Sanpete when the team failed to stay in the ballgame due to fouls. North Sanpete won that game 72-49.
In the game at Mt. Pleasant, Nick Stoddard fouled out in the first half and shortly thereafter, Ty Benson, Quinn Montgomery, Kashe Potter, Kashe Jewkes and Chance Huntington all took their places on the bench for the rest of the game. The Hawks, on the other hand, only had a single player pick up four fouls. Emery fans questioned the officiating in this game as all starters and the sixth man fouled out of the contest.
Emery trailed 16-14 after the first quarter, 31-24 at the half and 46-34 at the end of the third quarter before being outscored 26-15 in the final period.
Scoring for Emery were Montgomery with 11 points, Potter and Benson with nine points, Gage Bell and Jordan Cox with four points, Dallon Cologie and Jesse Winn with three points, Huntington, Stoddard and Jewkes with two points each. Emery shot 20 free throws in the game while North Sanpete shot 41.
Against Richfield, Ty Benson scored 30 points for Emery. Montgomery and Jewkes each scored six points in the game and Huntington and Stoddard each scored two points in the game. The score was tied 12-12 at the end of the first quarter, Emery led 21-18 at the half, the score was tied 32-32 after three periods and Richfield won the final quarter 24-14. Emery had their opportunities in this game but missed shots at the end did them in. Emery fouling to try and get the ball back led to the final margin of victory as Richfield made most of their free throws down the stretch
