"Kelsee Robertson works for position on an out of bounds play."

The Lady Pirates traded the balmy weather of Green River and traveled to seemingly always cold, Duchesne for a girls basketball game. The Pirates were short their starting guards due to sickness but the girls stepped it up and battled hard despite having nearly as many turnovers as points.
Michaela Hughes was the only Pirate in double figures as she went six for 11 from the field and added five points from the free throw line for a total of 17 points and led the team in offensive rebounds with four. To top off a great night, ‘Mike’ also added two blocks and two steals.
Five other Lady Pirates contributed offensively with Melissa Antillon dropping in her first three pointer of the season, Cassi Mecham adding two points at the line and older sister Cady going two for two at the line but grabbed six defensive rebounds and dished out four assists.
The real story in this game was having a few younger players ‘step up to the plate’ to fill the vacant spots on the roster. There were times when the girls all jelled and despite a turn over or two, the flow of the game was quick and you could see that things were working; then there were times when the wheels kind of fell off and it was chaos. But this is basketball and the only thing better than playing ball is playing more ball. Duchesne-56 and Green River-40.

Though Kelsee Robertson, Cady Mecham, Melissa Antillon and Sarah Swalberg were all honored at half time because this was their last home game while in a lady Pirate basketball uniform, there was business to handle first. The Navajo Mountain lady Jaguars were in town and someone forgot to tell them that they weren’t suppose to challenge the Pirates. Sarah Swalberg made her first career tip off successful with a tip to her team mate, but it was the lady Jaguars who scored first with a three ball and it was game on.
The Lady Pirates traded baskets with the Jaguars but they weren’t able to shake them. Coach Parsons called an early first quarter time out to shake things up and to knock a few cobwebs loose. At the end of eight minutes the score was knotted at 13.
That’s all it took.
With just 40 ticks off the clock in the second quarter, Sarah Swalberg drained a long three ball and the rout was on. The Lady Pirates began pounding it inside to Cady Mecham who finished the night with 11, to Jamie Johnson who finished with six and to Michaela Hughes for a game high 16 points.
Nine Lady Pirates dressed down for the game and nine Pirates scored. Kelsee Robertson a first year senior scored her first varsity points as each player contributed both offensively and defensively. The Lady Pirates only scored 13 in the first quarter but scored 21 points in each of the next three to go away with a home win by a score of 76 to 35.
