The 3-A high school swimming championships were held last week at BYU and Emery had their showing in their short history of competing in this sport. Emery took 12 swimmers to the state meet in individual or relay events. Judge Memorial won the girls meet followed by Park City. Richfield finished eighth and Emery finished 17th. Wasatch won the boys event with Desert Hills right behind.
Richfield, the region winner was 14th and Emery was 17th. The best finish by an individual was by Jessica Guymon. Guymon finished 10th in the 100-breast stroke as she improved her best time by more than a second at 1:18.54. She had been seeded 13th.
Eli Oliverson swam in three events. His best finish was 14th in the 100-breast stroke where he improved his time by more than a second finishing at 1:10.46. He had been seeded 19th. He finished 23rd in the 100-freestyle after missing the wall on his first turn.
Tyler Rowley finished 21st in the 500-freestyle at 5:51.46. Weston Allinson finished 21st in the 100-backstroke at 1:066.03, a 2.63 second improvement.
Weston Allinson finished 18th in the 200-IM with a time of 2:27.61 after being seeded 24th. He also finished 24th in the 100-back stroke with a time of 1:08.70.
Hailee Rogers took 24th place in the 200-IM with a time of 2:58.36.
In the relay events, the Emery girl’s team finished 12th in the 200-medley.
Team members were Ashlin Daley, Jessica Guymon, Hailee Rogers and Tennyson Fauver.
The Emery boy’s 200-medley relay team finished 12th after being seeded 15th. The team consisted of Rowley, Oliverson, Allinson and Spencer Fauver. The boy’s 400-freestyle relay team of Rowley, Fauver, Allinson and Oliverson finished 11th after having been seeded 15th.
Most times for the Emery swimmers at this meet were personal bests and with just about everyone being underclassmen, this bodes well for Emery swimming in the future.
