A pair of individual winners propelled the Emery High swim team past Delta into second place in the region 12 swim meet on Jan. 22 at the Emery County Aquatic Center in Castle Dale. Eli Oliverson and Tyler Rowley each won an event as Emery scored 208 points to Delta’s 198 points. Richfield won the meet with 420 points as their experience and depth proved to be too much for their competitors.
The Emery boys scored 92 points to Delta’s 89 points in a narrow victory for second place. The Emery girls scored 116 points to 109 points for Delta.
Eli Oliverson won event 12, the boy’s 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 56.35 seconds. He won the event by 1.2 seconds. Tyler Rowley won event 14, the boy’s 500-yard freestyle, with a time of 5:53.96. Tyler won the race by more than 21 seconds.
Five Emery swimmers finished second in their event and also guaranteed themselves a place at the state meet at BYU on Feb. 4-5. Hailee Rogers finished second in event 5, the girl’s 200-yard IM with a time of 2:51.42. Weston Allinson was second in the same event for the boys with a time of 2:34.59. Weston also finished second in event 18, the boy’s 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.70. Jessica Guymon finished second in event 19, the girl’s 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:19.58. Oliverson was the runner-up in event 20, the boy’s 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.07.
Other individuals that scored points for the two Emery teams were Colton Clement in the boy’s 200-yard freestyle by finishing third and Conner Benson finishing eighth in the same event.
Jessica Guymon was third, Katelin Crowther was fourth, Hailee Rogers was fifth and Tennyson Fauver was eighth in the girl’s 50-yard freestyle. Spencer Fauver was fourth and Justan Potter was seventh in the boy’s 50-yard freestyle.
Brinne Dawes finished third in the girl’s 100-yard butterfly and Colton Clement finished fourth in the boy’s 100-yard butterfly. Tanner Peterson was sixth, Brinne Dawes was seventh and Camber Koerner was eighth in the girl’s 100-yard freestyle. Spencer Fauver was seventh in the boy’s 100-yard freestyle.
Tanner Peterson was third with Camber Koerner seventh and Jolynn Jennings eighth in the 100-yard backstroke. Tyler Rowley was third and Michael Nelson was sixth in the boy’s 100-yard backstroke.
Morgan Curtis finished fifth with Tennyson Fauver finishing seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke. In the boy’s 100-yard breaststroke, Taylor Hardman was fourth, Bryson Hales was sixth and Leedan Johnson was eighth.
In the relay races, Emery finished second in the girl’s 200-yard medley. Swimmers were Ashlin Daley, Jessica Guymon, Brinne Dawes and Hailee Rogers. The Emery boy’s finished third in their 200-yard medley. Swimmers were Rowley, Oliverson, Allinson and Fauver.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the girls were second again and the boys were third. Swimmers for the girls were Peterson, Curtis, Fauver and Rogers. Swimmers for the boy’s were Justan Potter, Leedan Johnson, Taylor Hardman and Colton Clement.
In the final two races of the day, the Emery boys finished second and the Emery girls finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Swimming for the boys were Rowley, Fauver, Allinson and Oliverson. Swimming for the girls were Dawes, Petersen, Guymon and Fauver.
The first two places in individual events and the winner of each relay get automatic berths in the state swim meet. After that, the swimmers in the state meet are entered with their respective times from all four region meets. Emery should get more swimmers into the meet.
