Emery and Green River High School will celebrate graduation on May 26 at both schools beginning at 7 p.m. This year at Emery High there are co-Valedictorians as well as co-Salutatorians and one honor student. Nathan Mecham and Jacob Tuttle are co-Valedictorians and Mandy Langston and Spencer Fehlberg are co-Salutatorians. Sydney Tuttle is the honor student. At Green River, honor students include Caleb White is salutatorian, Cady Mecham is Valedictorian, Kelsee Robertson, Sarah Swalberg, and Melissa Antillon are the honor students.
Sydney Tuttle is the daughter of Ryan and Darcy Johansen and the late Trever Tuttle. She has a love for reading and traveling. She has been on two school trips to Europe and has visited the countries England, Italy, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and Mexico. She likes to spend time with her family and loves to watch black and white, Cary Grant movies with her grandmothers. She plans to attend BYU-Idaho in the fall and major in English.
Mandy Langston is the 18 year old daughter of Brent and Terry Langston of Ferron. After graduation, she plans to attend Utah State University in the fall to study Pre-Vet. She enjoys riding horses, playing the piano, and sitting around a campfire.
Nathan Mecham is the son of Doug and Kathy Mecham of Huntington. He has taken the ACT test eight times and eventually ended up receiving a 34 composite score. He is most proud of receiving a perfect 36 on the science portion of the test. He has a 4.0 grade point average. He can be found singing and dancing wherever he goes, whether in the halls or on the pitcher’s mound. He is a member of the drama club, speech and debate team, chamber choir, math club, Honor Society, is an Emery High peer tutor, and is the editorial editor on the school newspaper staff. He also plays baseball, football, and wrestles. He was named to the Salt Lake Tribune First team All-State Football and received the Academic All-State award in football and wrestling. He was a state finalist for the Wendy’s Heisman Athlete of the Year award. He attended the HOBY leadership conference and thinks it was an outstanding experience. He is the recipient of the Energy Solutions math, science, and engineering scholarship. He is the leader of Emery High’s Mighty Emery Student Section. He is the co-founder of the Spartan Dance and will gladly demonstrate it for you if you ask him to. He enjoys traveling and has been on two trips to Europe covering nine different countries. His favorite was Liechtenstein where he bought a yodeling squirrel. He is Emery High’s Seminary President. He was the Student Body Secretary this year.
Jacob Tuttle maintains a 4.0 grade point average and earned a composite score of 34 on his ACT. He was a member of the Football Academic All-State team and is involved in numerous school and community activities and clubs, including National Honor Society, FBLA, speech and debate, football, baseball, Orangeville Youth City Council, Orangeville City Volunteer Fire Department, Emery County Gun Club, Buckhorn Archery Club, and volunteers on the Emery County Sheriff’s Posse. He has participated in many service projects put on by his church and by the 4-H clubs that he is a member of. He has gone to local elementary schools and performed demonstrations for the students to teach them about science and to show them that science is fun. He holds a job with Johansen and Tuttle Engineering Inc., an engineering firm in Castle Dale that designs, surveys, and inspects projects related to civil engineering. He is the son of Brent and Brenda Tuttle and Terrill and Tara Rasmussen.
Spencer Fehlberg is the Student Body President, Math Club President, and a certified tutor at Emery High. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is a Science Olympiad state champion. He has a composite score of 30 on the ACT, a 4.0 grade point average, and has taken every available math and science course available to him during high school. He is a team captain in cross country, wrestling, and track, and has competed in each sport at state competitions most notably placing third in wrestling. He is the president of his church youth group, is a member of the Boy Scouts of America Order of the Arrow, and has received his Eagle Scout Award. He is on his school’s newspaper staff where he serves as the sports editor. He is a member of men’s choir, mixed choir, chamber choir, pep band, marching band, and the Eastern Utah Wind Symphony. Spencer is the son of Reed and Carma Fehlberg.
Kelsee May Robertson is the 17 year old daughter of Scott and Kristin Robertson of Green River. Kelsee participated in volleyball and basketball. She is the second vice president of the student body. Her favorite classes this year are guitar and weight training. Kelsee enjoys watching TV, singing and dancing and she loves to read. After graduation Kelsee is excited to attend Snow College in Ephraim, where she plans to major in theatre. She dreams to one day be on Broadway and to have a career in music.
Sarah Swalberg is the 17 year old daughter of Eugene and Laurie Swalberg of Green River. She maintains a 3.9 grade point average. Sarah participates in baseball, basketball and track at Green River High. She is the student body president. Sarah’s favorite subjects are P.E. and history. Sarah enjoys hanging out with friends, river rafting and reading. Sarah plans to go to college and participate in track and field.
Cady Mecham is the 17 year old daughter of Trevor and Allyson Mecham of Green River. She participates in basketball and volleyball. Cady enjoys going to shows, doing her hair, and hanging out with her friends. Cady’s academic interests are music, theory and weight training. After graduation Cady plans to go to college, possibly in England or to join the circus.
Caleb White is the 17 year old son of Tony and Amy White of Green River. He maintains a 3.9 grade point average. He participates in baseball, basketball, debate and drama. Caleb enjoys elevator music, running in place and ping pong. His academic interests are guitar, history and foods. His future plans are to go to college.
Melissa Antillon is the 17 year old daughter of Moises and Sandy Antillon of Green River. She participates in volleyball, basketball and cheer. She is the co-head cheerleader of the cheer squad. Her favorite class is physics. Melissa enjoys playing basketball, tightrope walking, riding a unicycle and juggling. After graduation Melissa plans to either go to Dixie or SUU and to become a psychologist or join the circus with Cady Mecham.
