SALT LAKE CITY-Our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ralph E. Hufford, age 92, passed away Monday, May 9, 2011.
He was born in Coquille, Ore. on May 20,1918 to Elmer and Iva Middleton Hufford.
After graduating from high school from Myrtle Point Union he attended the University of Oregon. Ralph served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Sixth Special Engineer Brigade in England and France. While stationed at Fort Douglas, he met and married Zorie Poglajen in Salt Lake City on July 25, 1942. She passed away on May 4, 2001.
Ralph was a former resident of East Carbon where he worked at the Horse Canyon Mine in East Carbon for 16 years. In 1963, he moved to Dugway where he worked for the Department of Defense at The Dugway Proving Ground for 20 years.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener and reader. Ralph was proud to serve his country and he was a member of the Salt Lake American Legion Post #8.
Survived by son, Kenneth (Dale Ann) Hufford, four grandchildren and 11 great- grandchildren.
Preceded in death by parents, Elmer and Iva Hufford; wife, Zorie Hufford; son, Dennis Hufford; brother, Marion Hufford.
Graveside service was Saturday, May 14, 2011, 11 a.m.,Cliffview Cemetery, Price, Utah. Family was at Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) in Price Saturday one hour prior to services. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily and can share memories of Ralph at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
