Emery High swim season begins with a splash

The 2011-12 high school swim season is under way and Emery High hosted Uintah High in their opening home meet the last week of October. Although practice has been ongoing for the past month or so, several members of last season’s squad have been involved in other fall sports at the school so the team is not up to full strength yet. On Oct. 14 the team hosted a swim-a-thon fundraiser. On Oct. 25 the team went to Carbon where they had a strong showing.
Weston Allinson, a returning senior, and Colton Clement, a returning junior, paced the boy’s team as each won two events agains Uintah. Allinson won the 200-yard individual medley and then he also won the 100-yard backstroke. Clement got the first victory of the day in event four as he won the 200-yard freestyle and then Clement won the 100-yard butterfly.
Senior Tyler Rowley was the other individual winner for Emery as he won the 500-yard freestyle. Rowley also finished second in the 100-yard backstroke.
The boy’s 400-yard freestyle relay team also finished first. Team members included Allinson, Rowley, Spencer Fauver and Eli Oliverson.
Other boys that placed in individual events include Tyler Miera, fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, Oliverson second in the 50-yard freestyle and second in the 100-yard freestyle. Spencer Fauver finished fifth in the 50-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard freestyle.
Conner Benson finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly with teammate Tex Stowe finishing fifth. Levi Jensen finished third in the 100-yard breaststroke with McKade Hansen finishing fourth.
Emery High also finished second in the 200-yard medley relay, second in the 200-yard freestyle relay and third in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Members of the first relay are Allinson, Oliverson, Clement and Fauver. Members of the 200 freestyle are Miera, Craig Greenburg, Michael Nelson and Charles Rubio. Members of the 400 freestyle are Benson, Miera, Hansen and Clement in the meet. In event one, the 200-yard medley relay, Emery’s team of Tanner Petersen, Laryssa Guymon, Melece Pulli and Chyanne Carter finished third.
In event three, the 200-yard freestyle, Krista Wright finished fourth. In event seven, the 50-yard freestyle, Carter finished third and Trish Greenburg finished fourth. In event nine, the 100-yard butterfly, Guymon finished second with Pulli finishing fourth.
In event 11, the 100-yard freestyle, Petersen finished third and Carter finished fifth. In event 17, the 100-yard backstroke, Petersen finished third and Greenburg finished fifth. Morgan Curtis finished fourth in event 19, the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Emery’s team of Krista Wright, Destanne Brunson, Gentry Guymon and Savanha Hall finished third. In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Emery’s team of Guymon, Carter, Curtis and Petersen finished second.
Team scores were the Uintah boys 96 and Emery 72. For the girls, the team scores were 127-Uintah to 32 for Emery.
