MOLEN – Mervin Duncan, age 89, passed away Nov. 21, 2011. Mervin was born Feb. 13, 1922 in Ferron, Utah to George and Eugenia McDonald Duncan. He married Ruth Harris Dec. 29, 1944 in Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Jan. 13, 1950. Ruth passed away on March 13, 2004. Mervin married Rose Koyle on Feb. 11, 2005, in Martinez, Calif.
Mervin was born and raised on the family farm in Ferron and surrounding communities where he gained a love for working with animals, especially horses. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities throughout his life including Stake Patriarch, a member of the Bishopric, Scout Master, and as a teacher in various church auxiliaries. He also served in the community as ASCS Committee Chairman, Peach Days chairman, and with the Special Service District. Mervin was a mechanic and auto body repairman in Price. He found joy in farming and ranching. He was a cowboy’s cowboy and loved his horses. However, Mervin’s greatest love was his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He also had a great love for the Gospel and for his friends and the people in Emery County.
He is survived by his wife, Rose; four children: Karrie (Jed) Behling of Ferron, Mervin Merrill (Julie Wallace) of Molen, Delaina (James) Nielsen of Clawson, and Laurie Ruth (Kent) Larsen of Ferron; two brothers: Morris (Lola) Duncan of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Everett (Nola) Duncan of Pleasant Grove, Utah; a sister-in-law, Beth (Keith) Winn of Molen; 29 grandchildren and 82 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Ruth; three brothers and one sister: Leland, Orsen, Luellyn, and Jean; brother-in-law, Richard Harris; and two grandchildren: Mistie Nielsen Myers and Candace Behling.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Ferron LDS church on the hill (35 West 200 North). There will be a viewing on Friday, Nov. 25 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary (720 N. Center St., Castle Dale) and on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be in the Ferron City Cemetery.
