Emery High sent a talented group of students to the state technology students competition on March 15. The state competition was at West Jordan Applied Technology Center. There were more than 500 contestants competing in 34 different competitions.
In the architectural modeling competition students had to design plans and a scaled model of a museum that displayed the history of industrial arts. They used Google SketchUp, Solidworks, and AutoCAD to design the plans. More than 100 hours of work went into it. They used the CNC laser to cut out all of the walls.
In the transportation modeling competition, Kraymer Kemple had to design and build a scaled model of a golf cart. Kemple designed a Ford Model T golf cart. He used a CNC laser, a CNC router, and hand tools to build it. He utilized SolidWorks and AutoCAD to design it.
The Technology Student Association fosters personal growth, leadership, and opportunities in technology, innovation, design, and engineering. Members apply and integrate science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) concepts through co-curricular activities, competitive events and related programs.
Those students qualifying for nationals include: Gabe Mouritsen, Aaron Knighton, Josh Knighton, Kraymer Kemple. They will now travel to the national competition to be held in Texas. These students are in need of help with their fund raising activities so they can attend nationals. Donations can be made at Emery High for these students. Imagine an activity so captivating that your students spend hours working on it after school for weeks at a time. That’s what happens when TSA members engage in TSA’s competitions. Only TSA members have the opportunity to compete at exciting state conferences and then at the annual National Conference. Expert judging by technology educators and industry representatives inspires the best from participants. Members are rewarded not only with medals or trophies, but also with memories of the camaraderie and the challenge of a TSA Conference.
Students can work individually or as a team in such areas as agriculture and biotechnology, website design, dragster design, flight challenge, film technology, CAD with 3D modeling, desktop publishing, extemporaneous speaking, radio controlled transportation or scientific visualization.
