HELPER- Dallas N. (Dub) Crandall, age 93, passed away Sept. 12, 2011 in Price. He was born Jan. 1, 1918 in Bingham, Utah to Nelson and Rose Allred Crandall.
Married Rose Zele, Jan. 25, 1941 in Helper. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2005.
Dallas was the ever great outoorsman. He loved walking along the railroad tracks in Helper and riding his ATVs with his grandchildren in tow. He had a passion for tying flies, fishing and camping. Dallas always had something up his sleeve. He was constantly creating new, useful inventions around the house and working with his hands. He could be mischievous with too much free time, but always had a good sense of humor.
Dallas worked at many different jobs over the years, usually three jobs at a time to support his family. In 1980, he retired from D&RGW Railroad as switchman. He’ll most be remembered as a school bus driver and driving the kids around was the highlight of his day.
Dallas was a member of the Catholic Church and a loyal Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. He was also a member of S.N.P.J. Lodge #113 for 70 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Rose Marie “Baby Rue” (Chuck) Hinton, Betty “Spaghet” Pope, Pat “Squeeker” (Dane) Larsen; caregiver and angel, Annie Gardner; grandchildren, Jill, Dane (Angela) Larsen, Terry (Mary) Hinton, Tammie Parcells, Dan (Toni) Haugen; nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Craig; sisters, Nelsene Rich and Buehl Maxfield; and a grandson, Dean Hinton.
Funeral Mass, Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, 10 a.m., Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church (200 North Carbon Ave) Price. Vigil service Wednesday evening 7 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home (233 East Main Street) Price. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday and Thursday one hour prior to service. Committal service: Price City Cemetery. In remembrance of Dallas, the family suggests contributions to the Knights of Columbus.
