HELPER-Michael Lee Hawkins, age 64, passed away suddenly March 4, 2011 at Utah Valley Hospital in Provo. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on Aug.18, 1946 to Thomas Howard and Lou Ella Robinson Hawkins. Mike was raised in Kanarraville, Utah where he was a graduate of Cedar City High School. During high school Mike excelled in many sporting events and it was said that he even enjoyed to rodeo. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the US Navy where he served two tours in Vietnam. Mike was proud of his service and was willing to go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was very friendly and he loved nothing better than sharing a good joke with his friends or visiting with his neighbors.
Mike was a longtime resident of Carbon and Emery counties where he worked at the power plants as a boiler maker.
On Dec. 11, 1976, Mike married Mary McEwan in Las Vegas, Nev. Mike traveled a lot with his work and along the way he always made time to enjoy the outdoors. Whether he was fishing, hunting, camping or 4-wheeling, he always enjoyed being with his family and friends. He loved to reminisce with his buddies and he was always finding clever ways to fix things.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Hawkins, Helper; son, Jeff (Courtney) Hawkins, Sandy; and his beloved grandsons, Cash and Colt Hawkins; four brothers and two sisters, Howard, Bill, Dave, Chick, Betty and Rose.
Graveside service, Wednesday, March 9, 2011, 2 p.m., Mt. View Cemetery in Helper. Family will receive friends at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price Wednesday afternoon from 12:30-1:30 p.m. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily and encouraged to share memories of Mike at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
