Emery Tennis finishes fifth at state

The 2-A 2011 tennis state championships were held last Saturday with St. Joseph’s taking the championship by one point over Rowland Hall. San Juan was third, Manti was fourth and Emery was fifth. In first doubles, Marqui Moss and Whitney Withers defeated the second place south region team San Juan by a score of 7-6, 6-1. Moss and Withers then lost to the team from St. Joseph’s 6-1, 6-4 that took the championship.
In second doubles, Keyara Elliot and Lauren Clarke defeated Richfield, the second place team from the south region, 6-4, 7-5. Elliot and Clarke then lost to another St. Joseph’s team that finished second to San Juan.
Rowland Hall won first singles by defeating St Joseph 6-1, 6-1. San Juan won second singles over Rowland Hall by a score of 6-4, 6-2. Rowland Hall won third singles over St. Joseph 7-6, 6-4.
