"Laurel Roundy with the block for Emery."

Emery High Volleyball has entered the last week of region play with the Lady Spartans battling for a spot in the upcoming 2-A Utah State volleyball tournament. Emery and South Sevier are currently tied for the last region spot to qualify for the tournament and will face each other in the final region match in Monroe this Wednesday night.
Currently Richfield is ranked number one in the 2-A ranks and is the region champion and is undefeated in region play. San Juan is ranked number five and the Broncos are tied with Grand at 4-3 in region action. South Sevier and Emery both have one win in region action so far this season.
Emery defeated South Sevier 3-1 when they met in Castle Dale a couple of weeks ago for their lone win and South Sevier upset Grand for their lone win. The winner of this match will probably advance while the loser will stay home. Emery also will host Richfield on Tuesday night this week in their final scheduled game.
Emery played a lot of volleyball last week. On Tuesday, the Spartans traveled to Grand and lost in three straight games. Scores were 25-11, 25-21 and 25-23. On Thursday, Emery hosted San Juan and lost in four games. Scores were 25-23, 20-25, 22-25 and 17-25. Emery then traveled to Richfield to participate in a two-day tournament. On Friday, the Spartans played three games in a round robin tournament and then on Saturday, the Lady Spartans played three more games matching like teams from pool play. Both Emery’s varsity and JV teams played in the tournament.
The Lady Spartans are playing better volleyball this season but unfortunately the team is playing in the toughest region in 2-A. The game Tuesday night against Richfield is scheduled to start at around 6:30 p.m.
