CARBONVILLE- Our beloved brother, uncle and friend, Ruben Bera passed away Oct. 6, 2011 at the Beehive Homes in Elmo after a lengthy and debilitating illness.
He was born in Castle Gate, Utah on March 18, 1931, the first child of Mike and Josephine Bera.
He grew up in the house he was born in, and lived in that house until 1974 when the town of Castle Gate was torn down. At that time he bought a home in Carbonville, Utah and has made that his home since then.
Ruben was educated in schools in Castle Gate, Helper, Carbon High School and Carbon College in Price. He was the son of a coal miner and quit school to work in the mine. Drafted in 1951, he served in the United States Marine Corps from Oct. 16, 1951 until Oct. 15, 1953, one year of which was in Korea. He was always proud to be a Marine. As a Marine he received his G.E.D. High School Diploma.
After completing his military duty, he went back to work in the coal mine at Castle Gate and made coal mining his career. He stayed with Castle Gate Mine until its closure. He then went to work in the Price River Coal Co. mine at Spring Canyon as a shift foreman. He retired at its closure. He was a retired member of the U.M.W.A. Ruben was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, 4-wheeling, snow mobiling, and especially his cabin at Scofield Reservoir. Ruben took a job after his retirement driving school bus for the Carbon School District, which he thoroughly enjoyed. He drove the bus until the end of the school year in 1997.
The family would like to thank the Beehive Homes in Elmo and all its staff for the loving care given to Ruben in the past months.
Survived by his devoted care giving sister, Erline (Dean) Denison, Price; loving nieces, Brenda (Jason) Chambers, Wellington, Tammy (Drew) Demler, Logan; several loving cousins in the Salt Lake area.
Preceded in death by his parents; brother, Angelo Bera; his best friend and fishing buddy Jackie Fish, whom he never forgot.
