Janel grew up in Moab, Utah and attended Grand County High School. She was very accomplished academically and was proudly honored as homecoming queen. She was also a member of Job’s Daughters.
She married Vopel H. Lander in 1970. Janel also gave birth to her only child, Michelle Dianne Lander Bruno in the same year. They divorced in 1981. She married Jon Anast on March 30, 1985 and they later divorced in 2008. She enjoyed her time spent with her stepchildren and step-grandchildren.

She also has been devoted to long-term friendships over the years which were a huge part of her happiness throughout her life. Her two dogs, also known as “the boys”, were very precious to her. She spent day after day attached to them.
