PRICE-Mary Konakis Rizzuto, age 85, passed away July 8, 2011 at Castleview Hospital.
She was born Jan. 29, 1926 in Sunnyside to Gust and Stella Vasillas Konakis.
Married the love of her life, Frank Rizzuto on Jan. 16, 1943 in Salt Lake City and they were blessed with four wonderful children before his sudden passing on Aug. 30, 1963.
Mary was a lifelong resident of Carbon County and member of the Assumption Greek Orthodox Church of Price. She was a tireless worker who worked for the Carbon County Youth Corrections for 16 years and at Parkdale Care Center for 10 years where she delighted the hearts of many. Mary was a friend to all and she held a special place in her heart for everyone. She loved to visit and her home was a welcoming place for all to enjoy.
Mary loved to be outdoors, especially working in her yard and going fishing. She was an excellent cook who loved to bake Greek pastries. Mary will always be remembered for her warm hugs, beautiful smile and her generosity.
She is survived by her daughter, Maryann Rizzuto, Huntington; son, Tony Rizzuto, Murray; two brothers and four sisters, Stanley Konakis, Orem, Lynn Konakis, Minturn, Colo., Connie Poglajen, Price, Athena Swasey, Provo, Marian Kogianes, American Fork, Angie Lawrence, Farmington, N.M.; seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many loving nieces and nephews and her adopted cat, Angel.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Debbie Damron; son, Dr. Frank Rizzuto; brothers, Johnny, Angelo, Nicki, Steve and Andrew; sisters, Artemesia Bertleson, Helen Maddison, Annie Vomvas and Harriet Marakis; and daughter-in-law, Trish Rizzuto.
Funeral service, Wednesday, July 13, 2011, 11 a.m., Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Tuesday evening from 7:30-9 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to service. Interment, Price City Cemetery. In memory of Mary the family suggests memorial contributions for a statue in her honor.
