Bennie B. Killpack, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away May 4, 2012, at the age of 84. Born July 6, 1927, in Ferron, Utah, the seventh of eight sons born to Eva Williams and Llewellyn Killpack, he graduated from South Emery High School in 1945, then enlisted in the Navy and served in the South Pacific. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1949 and attended graduate school at the University of Utah. He and his sweetheart, Winona Luke, were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Sept. 9, 1946 and have celebrated 66 years together. They made their home in Oakley, Idaho; Snowflake, Arizona; Coalville, Utah; Springville, Utah; Castle Dale, Utah; and most recently, Orem, Utah.
He enjoyed music and played the trumpet in a band. For more than 40 years, Ben touched the lives of countless young people as he taught and coached high school students. An exceptional athlete, Ben was a champion basketball player and played almost daily into his 80s. He never wavered in his faith and served as a Bishop and in many other leadership positions in the LDS Church. After retiring from public education, he and his wife operated a successful real estate business in Emery County, Utah.
Kindness, humor and friendship were his hallmarks. Stories and jokes were his specialty. His life was one of devotion to his family, his church and his community. He was truly loved by all who knew him and will be missed beyond measure.
He is survived by his wife and their children, Steven B. Killpack, Susan Killpack Peay (Roger) and Melody Killpack Clyde, as well as 17 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren, also survived by sister-in-laws Shirley Killpack, Kathryn Tarter, Maude Killpack and Marjorie Luke.
He was preceded in death by his seven brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 1 pm at the Orangeville Chapel in Orangeville, Utah. A viewing will be held from 11:00-12:30 prior to the service.
