Our beloved Una Marx Swenson passed away May 11, 2012 after a long illness resulting from a fall last August.
Una was born Nov. 19, 1919 in Sterling, Utah to Jacob Clyde and Leah Schlapfer Marx.
Una married Martin Swenson Aug. 1, 1939. They were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. They spent most of their lives in Carbon County, where they raised their three children. Una took great pride in maintaining a tidy home and raising her children.
Una was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints, in which she served in various callings.
She loved her grandchildren and was very proud of them. Each summer, Martin and Una would take turns letting the grandkids spend time with them, sharing in their favorite past times.
After Martin retired in 1981, they started to spend their winters in Arizona which resulted in 24 years of relaxation, warm sunshine, great fun, and meeting wonderful new friends from all over the country.
Una was very skilled at embroidery, and she won several blue ribbons in county and state fairs.
Una made sure she quilted a quilt and crocheted an afghan for each of her grandchildren, great -grandchildren, and her great-great grandchild.
After the passing of her husband of 65 years, Una moved to South Jordan Legacy Retirement center to be close to her children and their families, again meeting wonderful new friends, especially Ann Wells, who became her best friend. The center held many activities and two of her favorites were bingo and rummy cube so she could win candy bars to give to her grandchildren when they came to visit.
Una is survived by her children: Martin Ray (Jeanne) Swenson, West Point; Diane (George) Richards, West Jordan; Faye (Scott) Roberts, South Jordan; Nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter as well as one sister.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin; parents and many siblings.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 19, at the Spring Glen Ward Chapel (1985 West 4000 North) at 11 a.m. with a viewing held one hour prior to services. Interment will be held at the Price City Cemetery. Services are in the care of Fausett Mortuary. Family and friends may sign the guest book and share memories of Una at www.fausettmortuary.com.
The family would like to express their appreciation to Legacy Memory Care Staff in Taylorsville, Utah, for their compassionate and loving care given to their mother.
