Ray “Fergie” Ferguson
EAST CARBON-George LeRay “Fergie” Ferguson, age 50, passed away peacefully Aug. 5, 2003 in Provo after a heroic battle with cancer. He was born Oct. 25, 1952 in Dragerton to George and Beth Harvey Ferguson. He married Elizabeth “Liz” Rodriguez, Nov. 25, 1973 in East Carbon, where they have resided since that time.
Ray was devoted to his family. He loved spending time with his two sons and grandsons. He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and horseback riding. He had a love for the outdoors and sports, where he excelled. Ray loved people, helping out whenever he was needed. He worked for Kaiser Steel and then moved on to become Longwall Coordinator at PacifiCorp where he had the respect of his fellow workers.
He is survived by his loving wife Liz of East Carbon; sons Ryan Ferguson of Sunnyside and Levi Ferguson of California; two precious grandsons Patrick Hunter and Ryelan Cael Ferguson; his mother Beth of Sunnyside; brothers Harvey K. and Lorraine Ferguson of Wyoming and Randall S. and Alice Ferguson of Las Vegas; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father. He had many friends and one special friend Mark McDonald.
Funeral services were held Aug. 9 in East Carbon. Burial was in the Cliffview Cemetery in Price under the direction of Fausett Mortuary.
Hazel Alice Sehestedt
EMERY-Hazel Alice Sehestedt passed away Aug. 8, 2003 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Hazel was born in Viceroy, Saskatchewan, Canada on Oct. 27, 1918.
She is survived by four children, six grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold S. Sehestedt in 1997. Hazel moved to Emery town in 1998. Since then she has very much enjoyed her life in rural Utah and met many new friends here. Hazel has spent her life in service to her family and friends. In former years she was a dedicated foster mother and helped improve the lives of many children who were in her care.
Funeral services and burial will be conducted in Boise, Idaho, Aug. 15. A memorial service will be held in her behalf in Emery on Aug. 20 at 1 p.m. at the Emery Ward Relief Society Room.
Rocky Thorsen
PRICE-Our loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend, Richard (Rocky) Kenneth Thorsen, age 39, passed away Aug. 8, 2003 at his home.
Born Dec. 3, 1963 in Provo to James Kenneth and Gwen Brasher Thorsen. He married Sherri Lynn Dolinski, June 27, 1987 in Helper.
Rocky loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time in the mountains, camping, hunting, fishing, and golfing. He took great pleasure in working on vehicles and being a handyman for his family and friends. He loved coal mining and worked in various mines in Carbon County. Rocky was a loving father and husband and he lived for his wife and kids. He will be deeply missed, but never ever forgotten.
Survived by his wife, Sherri Thorsen, daughters, Shantell Thorsen, Tawnya Thorsen, son Dallas Thorsen, mother, Gwen (Virgil) Engvall, all of Price; five sisters, Deanne (Dale) Ashton, Lehi; Becky (Larry) Fox, Orem; Jolene (Basshar) Hamouri, Anaheim, Calif.; Neesha (Scott) Lee, Price; Karla (Gordon) Hall, Price; in-laws, Jerry (Deon) Dolinski, Spring Glen; brother-in-law, Randy (Tina) Dolinski, Helper; sisters-in-law, Debbie (David) Pilling, Carbonville; Dawna (Lou) Nickel, Sandy; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his father, James Kenneth Thorsen, sister, Karen Gwen Thorsen; grandparents, Dick and Wilma Brasher and special friend Troy Bryon.
Funeral service will be held Aug. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home. Family will be at Mitchell’s Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. Friends are welcome at Mitchell’s daily. Interment Cliffview Cemetery, Price.
Dorothy Jackson
EAST CARBON-Dorothy Dean Gibbs Jackson, age 80, passed away Aug. 7, 2003 at home while surrounded by her family. She was born May 18, 1923 in Jefferson County, Ala. to John Thomas and Miriam C. Gray Gibbs. Married Earl C. Jackson Nov. 8, 1947 in Birmingham, Ala. He died Feb. 15, 1998.
Dorothy was a longtime resident of East Carbon where she was a member of the East Carbon Community Church. She had a great love for angels and she spent many hours collecting angels and pictures of her family. She enjoyed embroidery work and will be dearly missed by her family and many longtime friends.
Survived by three daughters and three sons, Hilda “Lyn” (Frank) Farnham, Anitoch, Calif.; Ronald E. Jackson, East Carbon; Myra Kay (Bob) Leach, Martinez, Calif.; William E. (Rebecca) Jackson, Sunnyside; James D. (Eileen) Jackson, American Fork; Tammy Raye (Ed) Watson, Salt Lake City; sisters, Inez Latham, Birmingham, Ala.; Audrey Watkins, Bessemer, Ala.; brother, William (Dorothy Nell) Gibbs, Bayview, Ala.; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and many self adopted children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents and son, Robert Dale Jackson.
Funeral service Aug. 12 at 1 p.m. in the East Carbon Community Church. Family will be at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, Sunnyside.
Clair Gilbert King
PRICE-Clair Gilbert King, 75, passed away Aug. 8, 2003.
He was born Oct. 6, 1927 to Fountain Forest and Mary Celesta Lee King in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
He was a proud truck driver and substance abuse counselor. He worked for Carbon County Green Thumb Program at the Food Bank and the Senior Citizen’s Center. He was a faithful volunteer in 12-step recovery, reaching the newcomer through his experience, strength and hope.
He is survived by children: Mary Kathleen Parkinson, Robert Lee, Dennis Jay, Roger Dwayne, Karen Lynn, and Tracy Neal King. Brothers: Lloyd, Max and Wayne King. Sisters: LaRae Hill and many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Roy, Leon, Quinton, Tedd, Don, Sr.; sister, Mary; and son Craig LaMont King.
A celebration of Clair’s life will be held on Aug. 16, at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 200 East Main, Price.
Family members would like to thank his dear friend Carolshene Powell, AA and NA Recovery Family, and Castle Country Care Center for their love and devotion during Clair’s last days.
