A punt, pass and kick competition turned into a very profitable event for one Emery County man. The Emery softball team used the event as a fundraiser at the football games. Steven Gordon, Jason Hiatt, Moge Cologie and Leon McElprang were some of the participants. Names were drawn from all those who purchased tickets to participate in the event. They would pass the ball from the goal line, then punt and then they would have to kick a field goal from where the pass landed.
Steven Gordon put his skills to the test as he got off a fairly good punt, a wobbly pass, but then a field goal that went through the uprights to earn him a check for $5,000. The field goal was from the 22 yard line. The check recently arrived and was presented by assistant softball coach Shaun Bell and Tyler Jeffs from Farm Bureau Financial that insured the event. Gordon said his wife already has the money spent as they are building a new house. Bell said they hope to do the event again during next year’s football season to raise money for softball.
