EHS swim team to compete at region on Sat.

In a recent tri-swim meet between Emery, Richfield and Juan Diego High Schools held in Castle Dale at the Emery County Aquatic Center, the Emery High boy’s team finished second behind Juan Diego. Richfield, one of the better swim programs in 2-A athletics, had never came close to losing to the Spartans before this day. Final score of the boy’s meet was Juan Diego 109, Emery 104 and Richfield 79. Summit Academy had a participating swimmer that scored 11 points.
Four outstanding swimmers lead the Spartan boy’s team with many more in the program that are now contributing to the success of the program. Eli Oliverson, Weston Allinson, Tyler Rowley and Spencer Fauver all excel every time they get in the water.
These four finished first as a team in the 400-yard freestyle relay and finished second in the 200-yard medley relay. In both events the team improved their best time of the season.
In addition, each of these swimmers excel in at least two other events. Oliverson won the 100-yard backstroke and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle. Fauver finished first in the 50-yard freestyle and third in the 100-yard freestyle. Rowley won the 500-yard freestyle and finished third in the 100-yard backstroke. Allinson finished second in the 200-yard individual medley and second in the 100-yard backstroke.
The best event for the Emery boys was the 50-yard freestyle where Fauver was first, Tyler Pulli was second and Justan Potter finished fifth. All three improved their best time of the season.
Others placing for the boys team were Colton Clement finishing fourth in the 100-yard butterfly and fifth in the 200-yard freestyle, Tex Stowe finished sixth in the 500-yard freestyle, Michael Nelson finished fifth in the 100-yard backstroke and Tyler Pulli finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke.
The relay team of Nelson, Pulli, Clement and Potter finished fourth in the 200-yard medley. The team of McKade Hansen, Nelson, Kayden Parkins and Potter finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. The team of Pulli, Charles Rubio, Connor Benson and Clement finished fourth in the 400-yard freestyle. The Emery girl’s team finished third behind Juan Diego with 144 points and Richfield with 103 points. Emery had 59 points.
The Guymon sisters, Laryssa and Jessica, led the Spartans. Laryssa finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with Jessica finishing third. Laryssa was third in the 200-yard individual medley. Jessica was third in the 50-yard freestyle. Both girls were members of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished second and the 200-yard medley relay team that finished third. Also on the two relay team were Tanner Petersen and Hailee Rogers.
Also scoring points for Emery were Petersen finishing seventh in the 200-yard freestyle and fourth in the 100-yard backstroke, Rogers finishing fourth and Chyanne Carter finishing sixth in the 100-yard freestyle, Krista Wright finishing fifth and Carter sixth in the 500-yard freestyle.
The girls relay team of Gentry Guymon, Destanne Brunson, Laurel Jeffries and Judy Boyer finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. The relay team of Melece Pulli, Gentry Guymon, Wright and Carter finished fifth in the 400-yard freestyle.
The region meet will be held at Richfield on Jan. 21 with the state meet being held on Feb. 3-4 at BYU.
